Rowdy youths jeer at Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga at ODM rally
Siaya Governor Cornel Rasanga found himself in a difficult position when rowdy youths of Bondo Town jeered at him and barred him from addressing the public in an event that was also attended by ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Rasanga’s problems started when Kasipul/Kabondo MP Sylvance Osele handed him the microphone to address the crowd.
Several attempts by the governor to speak to the members of the crowd hit a snag as the rowdy youths, who chanted anti-Rasanga songs, persistently interrupted him, forcing him to cut his speech short.
At some point, the governor tried to calm the rowdy crowd by singing songs but the crowd would simply hear none of it and continued to boo the Siaya governor even as his party leader Raila Odinga and his brother watched.
This comes just days after Former Prime Minister and National Super Alliance co-Principal Raila Odinga urged his supporters to embrace tolerance and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner to avoid chaos in the coming ODM party primaries.
Mr Odinga had called on party supporters to ensure they go to the nominations peacefully, noting that they need not tear into each other because every contestant who will be running for any seat during the party nominations belong to the ODM family.
Earlier this week, The Director of Public Prosecutions, Keriako Tobiko, directed the Director of Criminal Investigations, Ndegwa Muhoro, to initiate investigations into the chaos that rocked the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) rally in Migori County on Monday, April 3.
In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations boss, Tobiko has raised concern over the political violence that left scores injured, including Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho’s bodyguard.
The DPP wants the investigations expedited and the file forwarded to his office for action.
This comes even as Joho, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed and Mbita MP Millie Odhiambo claim the chaos were part of a ploy to assassinate the Mombasa Governor after his car was left with a bullet hole.
Just yesterday, The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) headquarters in Nairobi’s Kilimani area witnessed chaotic scenes after supporters of nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro tried to storm the Executive Director’s office following reports that the Senator has been barred from contesting for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.
Ongoro’s supporters turned chaotic in their march threatening to eject the party’s Executive Director Oduor Ongwen from office accusing him of trying to shortchange the Senator who has stood and fought for the opposition.
Police were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the rowdy supporters who were making their way to Orange House.
According to reports, Senator Ongoro is set to decamp from the ODM party after the alleged barring from contesting for the Raraka seat, currently held by TJ Kajwang.
