Russia leads the world in welcoming Trumps victory

The world greeted U.S. President-elect Donald Trumps’ triumph over Democrat’s Hillary Clinton with mixed signals, with some leaders hailing his election, while others like Germany Defence Minister termed it ‘shocking’.

World leaders reacted differently to his election as the head of the global super power with Russian President, Vladimir Putin, being among the first leaders to congratulate trump on his triumph.

Vladimir expressed optimism that his election would improve relations between Russia and U.S.

Regionally, Tanzania President, John Pombe Magufuli, took to twitter to congratulate the 70-year old president-elect.

While hailing Trump’s triumph, China said it will work with him, to ensure steady and sound development of bilateral ties.

“We look forward to working together with U.S. New administration to push forward a consistent, healthy and stable China-U.S. relations which could be beneficial to the peoples from two countries and all over the world,” said China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Lu Kang.

In Australia, Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull welcomed Trump’s victory over Clinton and exuded confidence in continued working relations to tackle global challenges such as terrorism.

“Americans understand that they have no stronger ally, no better friend, than Australia and the enduring national interests of our two countries as such that our relationship will continue to be strong,” said Turnbull

“We will continue to work together as we have done, with many presidents in years past to take on the challenges of our time. I have great confidence that all of our engagement will continue to be strong and intimate, filled would the trust confidence that has characterized it for so many years.”

Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban, congratulated Trump on his victory and so did his Denmark counterpart Lars Rasmussen.

Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who recently sparked outrage with his verbal tirade against outgoing U.S. President Barack Obama, congratulated Trump and hoped for better working relations anchored on mutual respect and democratic ideals.

More reactions expected across the globe as Trump’s victory sinks in.
