Ruto accuses Cord of frustrating war against terrorism, corruption

Deputy President William Ruto has lashed out at Cord for frustrating the Jubilee Administration’s efforts in its fight against terrorism and corruption.

Speaking during a fundraiser for the completion of St Peters Anglican Church in Nyeri Town, Ruto said the government’s agenda to transform Kenya will not be deterred, noting that the government is winning the war against terrorism as a result of mainstreaming modern technology in security systems.

Ruto further stated that the country’s hospitality industry is expected to flourish after the British Government lifted travel advisories to Mombasa, Kwale and Kilifi counties.

The deputy president weighed in on the raging debate on the National Youth Service (NYS), defending Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru against accusations of fraud and corruption.

Ruto said that the opposition’s call for the probe of NYS is aimed at thwarting the progress that has been rolled by the government to empower the youth, adding that the government is looking to recruit additional 10,000 youths to NYS to speedily transform the country.

Ruto urged the opposition to allow the independent bodies mandated to handle corruption charges to perform their duties without being intimidated.

Other MPs, including those who had accompanied the deputy president, also voiced their support for Waiguru saying calls for a probe are aimed at jeopardizing the service delivery.

Speaking in Nairobi, a section of Jubilee legislators said that NYS cannot be scrapped as suggested by Cord.

Dagorreti South MP Dennis Waweru, Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau and Nairobi Women Representative Rachael Shebesh said they support Waiguru and the work she is doing, saying Cord should let the government deliver on its mandate to Kenyans.
