Ruto criticises CORD for seeking external funding

Deputy President William Ruto has criticized the opposition for seeking external financial support to influence 2017 General Election.

Ruto said Kenyans should be allowed to elect their own leaders without influence from outsiders.

The Deputy President said it was unfortunate that opposition leaders led by former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, were soliciting for financial support from outsiders ahead of the 2017 General Election.

Speaking at Bukhalalire High School in Butula Constituency in Busia County on Saturday, October 22, Ruto said Kenyans were well placed to elect leaders of their choice and do not need support from outsiders.

“It is unfortunate that some Opposition leaders are asking foreigners to fund their campaigns and influence the General Election,” said Ruto.

The Deputy President said Kenyans voted for the Jubilee Administration during the 2013 elections despite pressure from outsiders on Kenyans not to vote for Jubilee.

He said the same leaders who were asking other countries to determine the elections in Kenya, were at the forefront in 2013 scheming with foreign governments to be elected instead of allowing Kenyans their electoral rights.

“Kenyans have before and will again reject any external attempts to influence them during elections. Kenyans are well placed to elect leaders who are development conscious.”

The Deputy President told the Luhya community to vote for Jubilee Party saying he was optimistic it will form the Government come 2017 General Election.

“I ask you to support Jubilee come 2017 elections. Those in the Opposition have no agenda for you. When we plan development they are busy planning for demonstrations.”

He said Jubilee was committed to eliminating politics based on ethnicity citing the recent move to bring all its affiliate parties together under the new Jubilee Party.

“Politics based on this tribe verses that tribe have no room in this 21st century. This is why we are asking all Kenyans to join us in uniting all the Kenya’s ethnic communities,” he added.

“We should discourage politics based on tribalism. All Kenyans are in Kenya because of God’s wish and not by bad luck. We should therefore build bridges among all Kenyans.”
