Ruto: Govt to contain land conflicts

Deputy President William Ruto has said that the government has moved swiftly to contain conflicts over land ownership in some parts of the country.

Ruto has expressed concern over increasing cases of land conflicts citing the troubled Kihiu Mwiri Land Buying Company in Muranga County, where eleven directors have been killed in less than two years.

He said relevant government agencies have been asked to do everything possible to get the root cause of the controversies surrounding the troubled Kihiu Mwiri land buying company so as to solve the problem once and for all.

Ruto was speaking at Ngeria girls secondary school in Uasin-Gishu County.

Yesterday, Friday, former and current directors of the controversial Kihiu Mwiri Land Buying Company recorded statements at the CID Headquarters.

This follows the controversy that has engulfed the company leading to mysterious murders and disappearance of 11 directors.

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet and CID Director Ndegwa Muhoro summoned the directors to the CID Headquarters after holding a closed-door meeting in Gatanga on Thursday where they deliberated on the recent killings of two more company directors.

The two said action will be taken against security officers at the CID Headquarters and Makuyu police station who failed to take action even after receiving information of an impending murder of the two directors.

Meanwhile, acting Lands Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi said the government will issue title deeds to all land owners at Kihiu Mwiri by September 2015.

The remarks by the government officials came a day after two more directors of Kihiu Mwiri Company were shot dead by unknown assailants.

Chrispas Wanyoike and Chege Mwangi were killed on Wednesday morning on the Kihiu Mwiri-Kabata road in Thika.
