Ruto leads Jubilee’s charm offensive in Kwale, blasts Raila over water project remarks

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday asked Kwale residents to give President Uhuru Kenyatta a second term in office, saying another five years will see Jubilee’s bring even more development to Kenyans.

The Deputy President led Jubilee leaders in a charm offensive of the coastal region, a block that overwhelmingly supported Opposition leader Raila Odinga during the 2013 polls .

“I want to make it clear to you, and to all the people of Kwale that this time round we are walking together. I believe we will accomplish all the work that you want us to do together with your leaders,” Said the Deputy President

While in Kwale, Ruto unveiled Mzima I water project which he termed as a milestone project that will improve water supply in the county.

He took the opportunity to revisit the mega water projects controversy, taking a swipe at Opposition leader Raila Odinga over his criticism of the Muranga and Itare dam projects.

“We are trying to ensure that we supply water to wananchi, but the Opposition is opposing these water projects,” Ruto said.

The DP accused the former Prime Minister of playing politics with water supply to wananchi, while he has running water in his home.

National Assembly Majority Leader, Aden Duale urged the residents to turn a deaf ear the Opposition’s criticism, terming them ‘empty rhetoric’.

Kwale County Governor Salim Mvurya hosted Ruto and the Jubilee team as they toured the region ahead of the launch of the party’s regional campaign in team. Ruto is expected to unveil their campaign team at Tononoka grounds Sunday.
