Ruto, Munya, Timamy and over 100 others ditch Jubilee as party hopping deadline ends

Over 100 political leaders – among them Governors Isaac Ruto (Bomet), Peter Munya (Meru) and Issa Timamy (Lamu) – have decamped from Jubilee as the deadline to join new parties ends, Political Parties registrar Lucy Ndungu has confirmed.

Speaking to Citizen Digital  on the phone, the Political Parties Registrar Lucy Ndung’u confirmed that she has received letters from the governors, senators and Members of the County Legislators who have moved to other parties.

“The senators and MCAs who have left the new Jubilee Party come from the three counties lead by the governors who have defected,” said Ndung’u.

Ms Ndun’gu said that members of the 13 parties that were dissolved into Jubilee Party have until end of today to switch to other political vehicles.

Mr Bob Mukangi, a constitutional lawyer, told Citizen Digital that the 30-day window for Jubilee affiliate parties’ members is within the new Political Party Act.

“The political changes were done to ensure politicians and party members have a right to choose which political party they would wish to associate with to enhance their politics and other issues,” said Mr Mukangi.
