Ruto puts Agriculture ministry on the spot over NCPB scam

Deputy President William Ruto has demanded that the Agriculture Ministry explain how money meant for farmers ended up in the hands of brokers and businessmen.

According to him, Kenyans deserve much more information than how much money was stolen at the National Cereals and Produce Board scandal.

“How can one supply more than 200,000 bags to the National Cereals Board yet he or she has no land? Such a question needs an honest answer,” the DP posed.

Mr. Ruto, who once served as Agriculture minister, further warned that tough action will be taken against those implicated in both the NCPB and National Youth Service (NYS) scandals.

This comes after revelations that Kenyans lost over Ksh9billion in the latest NYS scandal and another Ksh.1.9billion at the NCPB.

“Those identified to have participated in the loss of billions of shillings in these scandals should be punished. No one should be spared,” DP Ruto.

He reiterated that public servants have a duty to protect resources entrusted to them.

Mr. Ruto further urged the Director of Public Prosecution and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to act swiftly and bring the suspects to book.

“Stiff penalties must be meted out to stop such acts. We cannot be losing money to corrupt individuals at the expense of the development of the country,” he added.

The DP was speaking in Kisii County during the graduation ceremony of St Paul’s Teachers Training College Nyahururu on Friday.
