Ruto responds to Uhurus kutangatanga remark

Deputy President William Ruto sparked laughter at a funeral ceremony on Saturday when he made light of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s remarks that described him as a man who has been ‘loitering’ around the country.

Speaking in Embu at the burial of Speaker Justin Muturi’s mother Mama Virginia Njoka Ruto told the president, who was at the ceremony, that he had compiled a report on the ongoing government projects after the ‘loitering’.

“Mheshimiwa rais, kwa ile ruhusa umenipatia na amri uliyosema kuhusu yale ambayo mimi nafanya kila weekend, huko mashinani, vitongojini  vijijini hata na huko kwenye vichochoro, nataka nikupatie report,” said Ruto.

Loosely translated: ” Mr. President following the permission and order you gave me about when you made a statement about going around the country every weekend in the villages and estates, I now have a report ready to give you,” said Ruto as the mourners burst in laughter.

“The road from hospital going to Kathangariri, Kianjokoma, Runyenjes, Nguinjeri up to Siakagu is still going on. But the one which has a problem is that which connects from Kiritiri going to Siakago the contractor should put in more efforts or be sent packing,” Ruto went on to give a report.

On Wednesday, May 30 President Kenyatta caused a stir when he used the word ‘kutangatanga,’ while referring to the DP’s  movements around the country as he urged him to ensure services are delivered to Kenyans.

“Hii kijana anaitwa Ruto unajua kila weekend anatangatanga kila mahali… atakua anapitia hizi machorochoro mkiona kuna kitu inaenda konakona mumuambie. Tuhakikishe kazi ya wananchi imefanyika… Tumekubaliana? Wangapi wanasema tuache siasa tuende kazi?” posed Uhuru as the crowd cheered.

Loosely translated:  “The Deputy President comes around these areas a lot and if you see anything wrong with the progress of the project you can inform him. Let us ensure services are delivered to Kenyans.”
