Ruto says junior police were ordered to attack him

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has now blamed senior police officers for his facial injury, saying that the junior officer who allegedly lobbed teargas at him was effecting orders from above.

Ruto, who was injured when he stormed a friendly football match in Silibwet Stadium on November 7, jetted back into the country on Friday after receiving treatment in South Africa.

Speaking during a stopover at Ntulele Market on his way to Bomet for a homecoming ceremony, Ruto reiterated his earlier claims – that police officers intentionally attacked him when he went to the stadium to negotiate the release of arrested Chama Cha Mashinani supporters.

The governor criticised Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett for banning the use of unlicensed Toyota Probox and Toyota Wish cars as public service vehicles, saying that the businesses provide employment to the country’s youth.

Speaking during the stopover, Emurua Dikirr MP Joanna Ng’eno asked Jubilee government to come out clear over corruption scandals and let the suspects face the law.
