Ruto tells off those criticizing KDF pullout

Deputy President William Ruto has cautioned politicians against involving themselves on matters pertaining to the Kenya Defense Forces (KDF).

Speaking during an interdenominational prayer service at the Bindura Africa Inland Church, Kesses in Uasin Gishu County on Sunday, 13th November, Ruto said matters of the defense should be left only to the President.

“President Uhuru Kenyatta is the Commander in Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces and (he) knows his role on matters of security. The President does not make decisions on the basis of political directions but on security analysis,” said Ruto.

The Deputy President said the country is sovereign and the President has a right to give direction on how security issues should be handled.

In a comment that was seemingly directed at Opposition leader Raila Odinga following his criticism about Uhuru’s decision to pull troops out of South Sudan, Ruto said the President does not rely on outsiders for advice on matters pertaining to security.

“Our security officers have put their lives at risk in the line of duty for the sake of the security and we should stop political insinuations on their work,” said Ruto.

The deputy president also warned against politicians engaging in divisive politics.

Ruto was accompanied by Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Uasin Gishu governor Jackson Mandago, Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani.
