Ruto wants CORD leaders to record statement on Jacob Juma’s murder

Deputy President William Ruto has called on CORD leaders to record statements with the police regarding the murder of businessman Jacob Juma.

Speaking in Lari on Sunday, the Deputy President said that it was unreasonable for CORD leaders to make inflammatory utterances regarding the murder of Jacob Juma instead of cooperating with the police to ensure the suspects are apprehended.

“If you do not want to help police fight a crime then, you are as guilty as the criminal. If CORD leaders mean well for the family of Jacob Juma, they should not be dancing on his grave, but instead work with police to ensure those behind his death are brought to book,” he said.

Ruto’s pronouncement is similar to that of Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet who last week called on CORD leader Moses Wetangula to reveal to police those behind the killings.

Wetangula had claimed that he would reveal those who killed Jacob Juma during his burial in Bungoma, though he rescinded on his decision.

The Ford Kenya party leader, however, stated that he would not record a statement with the police over Juma’s murder saying they do not believe the police can carry out a transparent investigation.

Ruto further called on CORD to desist from issuing ultimatums on the need for dialogue saying the government is open to discussing with them and resolving outstanding issues.

“They told us they want to dialogue and we said we are ready for that. They should bring their grievances before the floor of the Parliament so that we can discuss the issues,” he said.

CORD has, however, ruled out using the parliamentary process to seek resolutions to the issue of IEBC saying they will instead stage protests to force the commissioners out.

They said that Jubilee has in several instances used its numbers in parliament to frustrate CORD’s agenda saying the Constitution gives them the right to hold protests.
