Ruto’s Trial Resumes Today at The Hague

The trial resumes without the attendance of Deputy President as he is still in the country doing state duties as President Uhuru Kenyatta is away in Angola attending a summit

It comes a day after trial chamber judges granted Ruto unlimited excusal from physical attendance at trial with a few conditions

While delivering the ruling, Presiding Judge Chile Eboye-Osuji said Ruto is expected to attend certain key hearings and every first 5 days of session following a court recess.

Judge Osuji further added that Ruto would also have to be present when victims of the violence "present their views and concerns in person" and when judgment is handed down.

Ruto is therefore now expected to attend trial only for 3 days next week for the remainder of the period that the trial will take before the next break.

Ruto is facing charges of crimes against humanity and forceful transfer of population among others.

Ruto has denied the charges.
