Ruto: Devolution of health on course

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto says his county administration will distribute drugs worth Sh35 million to health facilities across the county to improve health care services.

The governor disputed claims that county governments had failed to properly manage health services at grassroots level and he has urged the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency (KEMSA) to prepare a report on the increased drugs supplies bought by counties.

The Bomet County governor who was speaking after he dispatched the funds for medication, reiterated that devolution of health in the country is on the right track.

Bomet county residents were also assured that there were enough health personnel and drugs within the county.

Rutto lauded the Kenya Red Cross who had supported counties in providing health services.

He, however, noted that counties would still continue seeking emergency services from the Red Cross as an auxiliary to the government healthcare services. He also urged the national government to work hand in hand with county governments to improve the lives of Kenyans.

Governor Ruto added that they would be working with NACADA to curb the challenges of alcoholism within the county.

The chairman of Council of Governors Peter Munya also noted the frustrations county governments experienced saying that there was a lot of propaganda going around that counties had failed to provide proper health services to the public yet the situation on the ground proved otherwise.
