Sabina Chege denies links with 25-year-old conman

Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege has refuted claims that she had a relationship her with the man who conned her fellow lawmakers.

In a turn of events, Ms. Chege asked the State to provide her with additional security because ‘her life is in danger’.

According to her, 25-year-old Wazir Benson Masubo Chacha is now sending her and other MPs threatening messages because she unearthed his scam in Parliament.

She was responding to allegations that she was involved with the man who has been soliciting money from MPs using her name.

“He used an ID number of a former member of parliament to register an M-Pesa account in the name of Sabina Wanjiku Chege. He did this in Donholm and we have all the details,” Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti said.

The DCI also revealed that the man who is linked to four other cases of fraud has since gone into hiding.

In a related incident, two Multimedia University students were on Wednesday arraigned in a Nairobi court and charged with attempting to defraud former Gem MP Jakoyo Midiwo.

Derrick Kemutai Ng’etich and Edwin Nderitu Warukira however told the court that Mr. Chacha had sent them to collect the cash from the former MP on his behalf.
