Safari Rally flag off: Traffic to be disrupted on Thika Road, Uhuru Highway on Thursday

Motorists in Nairobi have been advised to avoid Thika Road and Uhuru Highway from 8am to 12 noon on Thursday, June 24 to pave way for the Safari Rally flag off at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC).

According to Nairobi Area Traffic Commander Joshua Omukata, the ceremonial flag off will start at KICC at 12.45 pm.

The vehicles will then pass through Parliament Road, Haile Selasie Avenue, Uhuru Highway, Wangari Mathai Road and then head to Kasarani via Thika Road.

After that, the Safari Rally vehicles will head back to Thika Road and pass through Muthaiga as they head to Naivasha.

The Nairobi Area traffic pointed out that even though there will be no closure of the said roads, there will traffic disruptions in the city and on the said roads.

On Tuesday, Sports CS Amb. Amina Mohamed expressed satisfaction with the level of preparedness ahead of the World Rally Championship on Kenya’s soil, after her final inspection of the Service Park and Media Centre at the Kenya Wildlife Training institute – Naivasha.

Accompanied by members of the steering committee as well as Sports Principal Secretary Joe Okudo, Amina lauded the commitment and resolve of all the stakeholders to stage the world class competition.

It will be the first time since 2002 that the World Rally Championship is returning to Africa.

Last week, President Kenyatta urged Kenyan motorsport enthusiasts who will be attending the four-day Safari Rally to be careful, saying it had taken the country years of negotiations and preparations to bring back the WRC event after an 18-year absence.
