Safaricom Takes Diabetes Walk To Mombasa

The event which started at 9.00 am has seen Momasa County Governor Hassan Joho, Senator Hassan Omar and Saricom C.EO Bob Collymore in attendance at Butterfly Pavilion Bamburi.

The Safaricom Diabetes Walk is an annual event hosted by the Kenya Diabetes Management & Information Centre (DMI Centre) to raise funds that help in sustaining an insulin bank for children below 18 years of age who are unable to purchase insulin.

The Kenya Diabetes Management and Information Centre (DMI Centre) is a not-for-profit registered medical charity founded in May 1999 with the aim of educating the public about diabetes.

The Annual Diabetes Walk in Kenya was in response to the alarm raised by various international and local organizations about the increase in the number of people diagnosed with diabetes.

Kenya has an estimated diabetes prevalence of 4.5%, which is about 1.8 million people.

This number is predicted to rise to 5.4% by 2025 because more young children are being diagnosed with diabetes.
