Sakaja: Jubilee will campaign for ODM candidate in Migori senate race

Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has stated that the Jubilee Party will support the candidate fielded by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for the Migori Senatorial race.

Speaking on Monday at a funeral in Kamagambo, Rongo sub-county, Sakaja said the Jubilee Party opted not to field a candidate for the seat because they were confident that the choice made by ODM party leader Raila Odinga was the best.

The legislator further said MPs allied to the ruling party will assist the ODM party in drumming support for their candidate when the campaigns kick off.

“We decided that, as Jubilee, we will have no candidate because we’re supporting the choice of Baba due to the handshake,” he said.

Sakaja also appealed to all Kenyans to continue giving more support to the building bridges initiative of President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga saying it is the only way to unite Kenyans.

“Let us not allow anyone to bring divisive politics. This is a new Kenya. Unity of the people, inclusivity and integrity. We will not allow any politician to derail the journey President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga began,” he added.

Sakaja’s endorsement comes barely a day after Ford-Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula endorsed People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Solomon Hodo for the same seat.

Six candidates have so far been cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to run for the Migori county senate by-election slated for October 8, 2018..

The six are Dr. Ochilo Ayako (ODM), Jobando Peter Osikeo (Green Congress Party of Kenya), Ogolla Dickson Ogolla (Independent), Eddy Gicheru Oketch (Federal Party of Kenya),Otieno Samwel Otieno (Independent), and Rugaria Solomon Hodo (PDP.)
