Samburu gets weighing scales to keep track of nutrition

Samburu County has received weighing balances worth Ksh 1.6 million courtesy of World Food Programme (WFP) in bid to keep track of nutrition for children under the age of five.

The launch of the equipment, presided over by Samburu Governor, Moses Lenolkulal, will help monitor the levels of nutrition of children aged five and below as well as provide a supplementary feeding programme especially during the ongoing drought that has threatened lives of over 2.3 million Kenyans.

The United Nations’ World Food Programme boss, Justine Rotich, said the 58 weighing scales will only be used in Samburu East, as those of the Northern and Central region are in the process of being delivered.

At the same time, the international organization donated a vehicle and two motorcycles to be used for transport services during mitigation of hunger effects by the county government staff.

Rotich further said that WFP would extend their partnership with the county government in other programmes focused on improving standards of living for the people.

Governor Lenolkulal said the newly donated equipment will help the county in providing better and protect status of children in Early Childhood Education Centers in the region.
