Samburu leaders decry loss of tourists due to IEBC protests

Samburu County leaders have urged opposition leaders to shun demonstrations and embrace other means in their bid to remove Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officers from office.

Addressing residents at Kenyatta Stadium during Madaraka Day Celebrations in Maralal Town, Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal urged Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) leaders Raila Odinga, Moses Wetangula and Kalonzo Musyoka to amicably settle the IEBC standoff with the government through dialogues and within the constitutional boundaries.

Lenolkulal also noted that the protests have negatively impacted on the County’s economy by creating insecurity and a bad name for the country.

“Besides injuring the country’s reputation and frustrating businesses in major towns, IEBC protests have greatly affected tourism, which is the main source of revenue for the Samburu County Government,” he pointed.

His words were echoed by Samburu Women Representative Maison Leshoomo, who urged the leaders to respect the presidency.
