Samburu leaders urge youths to maintain peace ahead of polls

Leaders from Samburu County have challenged youths from all ethnicities across the country to unite and coexist peacefully irrespective of their tribes and political differences as the country approaches the General Election.

Speaking to more than 300 youths in 12 teams from five wards in Samburu West Constituency at the Kenyatta Stadium in Maralal town, the leaders urged the youths to embrace peace during the campaign and after the election period.

Samburu West MP Lati Lelelit urged youths to shun politicians targeting them with immoral activities ahead of this year’s polls.

“Peace starts with you, our youths, you should stop fighting over politicians even if you love me and someone else doesn’t want to see my face, that is your brother it is only me that he doesn’t like,” said Lelelit.

On his part, Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal advised selfish politicians against taking advantage of needy youths for their own benefit in this campaign period.

“Fellow politicians let us not use youths in the wrong ways. We need both peace and youths in this country”, said the county boss.

The event’s Organizing Committee Chairperson Alex Aleka said the event was organized to give youths an opportunity to showcase their talents as they receive advice against engaging in immoral activities including drug abuse and being wrongly used by politicians in political campaigns.

“While here they will stay and play together until Thursday with the aim of enhancing unity so that politics may not create hatred and division among them,” said Aleka.
