Samburu, Pokot leaders ask herders to stay within agreed areas

Leaders of the Pokot community have asked its herders to remain within their grazing areas so as to conflict between the two communities living in Samburu County.

Speaking in a meeting with the residents held at Mbukoi area in Samburu North on Tuesday, Samburu County Governor Moses Lenolkulal told Pokot herders to honor a communal grazing agreement they signed with their counterparts from the Samburu community.

Lenolkulal asked the two communities to coexist peacefully and ensure continuity of their livelihoods with adherence to policies set by the available grazing committees in the region.

Samburu County Assembly Speaker Steve Lelegwe, who had accompanied the governor, said that herders from the Pokot community will be confined within boundaries of Morijo and Malasso areas in Samburu Central Sub County to avoid unnecessary conflicts that have retarded development in the region for many years.

The two communities were asked to respect each other’s grazing boundaries as per the agreement.
