Samburu residents threaten to kill their children over food scarcity

Residents of Suiyan village in Samburu North Sub-county have threatened to kill their children to spare them the pain of suffering slow death as a result of starving.

According to Samburu Woman Representative Maison Leshoomo, the rampant cattle rustling in the area has seen families lose hundreds of cattle which is their main source of livelihood.

“Many families have been left with nothing that is why some men have threatened to kill their young children rather than see them starve because they have nothing to feed them,” she said.

According to Suiyan village chief Karoli Leraul, armed bandits from a neighboring community have stolen over 7,000 cattle since July 2017.

The woman representative has called on the government and security agencies to donate food to the village and ensure they recover the stolen animals which are believed to be in a neighbouring village.
