Samburu, Turkana communities agree on grazing land

Samburu and Turukana, elders and morans have reached an agreement on sharing grazing fields and water points especially during dry seasons to avert conflict that has resulted in unnecessary loss of lives and property.

The agreement was reached in a meeting convened by the Northern Rangelands Trust and the Office of the County Commissioner at Nasuulu Community Conservancy.

While conveying the resolutions to the county security team, Northern Rangelands Trust Representative Andrew Phitisa said that the agreement is binding and will end communal attacks to ensure that there will be no more cattle rustling between the two communities.

According to Phitisa, the communities will recover stolen animals and ensure the owners of the Manyatta found harboring stolen animals are prosecuted individually.

Isiolo County Commissioner George Natembeya lauded the move saying it will help resolve outstanding issues and encourage peaceful co-existence between the two communities.

He further asked the communities to present their illegal firearms for
registration.
