Samburu woman Killed by elephant

A 44-year-old woman was on Friday, July 7 morning attacked and killed by an Elephant at Seketet Forest, Sirata area in Samburu Central sub county

The woman was walking through the forest to the market in Maralal Town when she was attacked by the elephant.

Samburu Central Officer Commanding Police Division, Abagaro Guyo, said that the woman’s body was removed to Samburu County Referral Hospital mortuary for postmortem.

He added that they have already launched investigations into the matter.

He called upon the Kenya Wildlife Service to do regular patrols along roads that pass through the forests and scare away any wild animals that might cause human deaths.

Sources indicated that the elephant stumbled on the woman and crashed her head and legs before throwing her several metres away.

“We collected the body from far inside the forest, the shoes were metres away from the body showing that the Elephant threw her away,” said a police officer.

The OCPD called upon residents to be extra vigilant especially when walking through forests to avoid such cases.
