Samsung J1 or Tecno Boom J7, which one is best?

The year 2015 marked the launch of several great but affordable flagship phones in Kenya.

If you are a bit cash-strapped but still want an awesome phone, this article is definitely for you.

Among the popular and affordable flagship phones in Kenya are Samsung Galaxy J1 and Tecno Boom J7, each with its own specifications and advantage over the other as outlined below:

Similarities
Both devices run Android 4.4 (Kitkat) OS version with 2MP front camera and provide support for Dual SIM cards (Best for typical Kenyans with 2 SIM Cards).

In terms of pricing in various online stores and local shops in Kenya, both the phones go for almost the same price (about Sh12,000) though in most instances, Tecno boom J7 trades at Sh1,000 higher than its counterpart.

Samsung J1 Features
Samsung Galaxy J1 comes packed in a slim 8.9mm frame, with soft edges that make it easy to grip.

With its relatively large screen and palm selfie function, the device can detect the movement of your hand, such that one can easily snap a photo by simply tapping anywhere on the screen, providing a better user experience for selfie lovers.

In addition to this, the device also comes with ultra power saving mode, a technology unique to Samsung that give users a boost of power during important situations, allowing them to complete important tasks with minimal battery power.

Technical specifications

The J1 has a multi-touch 4.3′ screen size with a 480 by 800 pixels resolution powered by a 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 dual core processor.

In terms of storage, the phone comes with an internal storage space of 4GB and a 512 MB RAM, with an optional memory card slot that can support up to 128GB.

Its 2MP Front camera mentioned earlier on also comes with a 5MP rare camera that supports auto-focus and also acts as an LED flash light.

Tecno BOOM J7 Features
This device targets music lovers.

The Boom J7 is as slim as the Samsung Galaxy J1 and housed in a 143 x 71.9 x 8.93 mm frame.

In addition to its slim size, the device offers a unique screen technology that supports shortcut gestures for common phone functionalities such as accessing the camera, music and others.

For instance, to access the camera instantly without unlocking your device, just type letter “C” on the screen and for to access music, letter “M” (Best feature for me so far).

For music lovers, the phone also comes with a music library that allow users to switch between songs on the go by swiping the screen when the phone is on standby mode.

Technical specifications
As opposed to its competitor, Boom J7 comes with an 8MP back camera while maintaining the 2MP front camera.

It also comes with a relatively bigger screen (compared to Samsung Galxy J1) with a 5.0 inch screen size having a 720 by 1280 pixels resolution.

The Boom J7 also comes with a 2020mAh battery that seems to last longer than that of its competitor (1850 mAh).

In terms of device storage, Techno Boom J7 also proves to be superior, with an internal storage space of 16GB and a RAM of 1GB coupled with an optional SD slot that supports up to 32GB.

I believe after going through this, you can now decide between which, between the Samsung J1 and Tecno Boom J7, best suits you.
