Sarova Hotels chairman, 3 family members perish in Mombasa road accident

The Sarova Hotels Chairman, Mohinder Singh Vohra, his wife, daughter and daughter-in-law died on Sunday in a grisly acccident on the Nairobi-Mombasa road.

Confirming the accident, Mukaa Police boss Charles Muthui said two of the victims died on the spot while two others perished on arrival to the hospital.

Mohinder’s son, Saveer Vohra, who was driving the car at the time of the accident was rushed to the Sultan Hamud hospital before being airlifted to Nairobi.

Witnesses recount how the speeding Toyota Prado the family was travelling in veered off the road while trying to avoid a head-on collision with a lorry and landed into a ditch.

The family was returning to Nairobi from a memorial service of Mohinder’s son J.S Vohra at the Makindu Sikh Temple.

J.S Vohra, the then Sarova Hotels Managing Director and a racing enthusiast, also perished in a road accident along the Amboseli Lodge last year.

The remains of the family members were taken to the Machakos County Refferal Hospital mortuary while the mangled wreckage of the car was towed to Salama Police Station.
