Saudi Launches Fresh Attacks On Yemen

According to a report by the Saudi Convoy in United States on Wednesday, for a month now, the Houthi rebels have intensified their violent campaigns against the government.

Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir said the operation consisted of airstrikes on more than one city and in more than one region.

Yemen has been plunged into chaos since the Houthi rebels began seizing control of the capital and other areas of the country in recent months.

Reports say that the unrest has led to the withdrawal of U.S. Special Forces from Yemen.

This has seriously undermined counterterrorism efforts in the city that is said to be a longtime stronghold for one of al Qaeda's most dangerous branches.

"We are determined to protect the legitimate government of Yemen," Al-Jubeir said.

He added that having Yemen fail cannot be option for the government or for the coalition partners.

COUNTERING AGGRESSION

However, a leading member of the Houthis' political wing, Ansar Allah, said they will as well use force to counter the attack.

"This is a clear aggression and we will respond by a counter aggression," said Ali Al Imad.

"The Saudi move will unite all the people of Yemen against the Saudis and the kingdom will pay the price," he added.

The airstrikes are targeting military compounds, headquarters and weapons storage areas.

Tension is high at Sanaa following hundreds of explosions that has made the residents to stay in their homes.

The Gulf Cooperation Council military assistance is willing to step in for Yemen following their call for assistance.

Arab and senior administration officials from the United States have said that an interagency U.S. coordination team is in Saudi Arabia and has cited that the Saudi will likely ask for American air support, satellite imagery, and other intelligence.

"We can help with logistics and intelligence and things like that, but there will be no military intervention by the U.S.," a senior administration official said.
