Save Jubilee and work with DP Ruto, Uhuru told

Kuresoi South Member of Parliament Joseph Tonui now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta to clear the air on whether he is eyeing a prime position in the next political cycle or if indeed he will actually hand over power upon the expiry of his 10-year tenure.

The MP argued that the Head of State’s silence was creating unnecesary tension amid claims that he alongside opposition chief Raila Odinga are planning to allocate themselves leadership positions through the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report.

Speaking at Tinet Kabongoi Girls Secondary School on Friday, the legislator also asked President Kenyatta to take charge of the Jubilee Party – which has, in recent time, appeared divided into two camps; Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga – and at the same time work with his deputy, William Ruto.

He further added that the woes affecting the Jubilee Party are partly due to President Kenyatta’s failure to convene a Jubilee Parliamentary Group meeting to iron out the issues.

“It is unfortunate that MPs have been reading from different scripts on party issues with the President failing to grant them a meeting to ventilate on the issues and take a common approach for the sake of party unity,” said Mr. Tonui.

There have been simmering tensions between legislators allied to President Kenyatta and DP Ruto ahead of a perceived 2022 political showdown.

Kandara MP Alice Wahome recently accused the president and former premier Raila Odinga of hatching a plan that will see them cling to power in the next General Elections.

At the same time, Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri – who is also allied to DP Ruto’s camp – has demanded that President Kenyatta come’s clean on 2022 succession politics to quell the fettering political tensions.
