A celebration in Waa High School, Kwale, turned tragic after one student died and two others seriously injured after they were hit by a Probox at the school gate while celebrating their school’s sports victory.

According to eyewitnesses, the students were celebrating their victory outside of the school’s main gate, which lies along the Mombasa – Lunga Lunga road, after their high school sports competition when they were hit by the vehicle.

The Probox’s driver is reported to have tried to swerve in order to overtake a trailer that was near the place where the jubilant students were celebrating but instead rammed onto the group, killing the deceased instantly while the other two were rushed to Coast General Hospital in Mombasa.

The deceased is expected to be buried Sunday afternoon in Vuga.
