School girl gets 18 months for bhang possession

A high school girl arrested alongside 42 others at Kiangwaci road block along Embu – Nairobi highway in possession of bhang, tobacco and match boxes inside a Nairobi bound bus has been placed under probation for 18 months.

The secondary school girl, who appeared before Baricho Law Court Principal Magistrate Evans Keago, was placed under the probation to monitor her behaviour and reform her.

In her defense, she told the court that she had been given the bhang by her friends to throw away before their bus was stopped by police officers.

Keago, however, preferred a non custodial sentence to allow her undergo counseling as she continues with her studies.

The girl was nabbed after Kiangwaci Patrol Base officers made a thorough search of the bus that was ferrying the students to Nairobi.

Nude pictures of the minor that later splashed online by an unknown person has since drawn condemnation from members of the public as inhuman and unprofessional.
