School shut down over elephant menace

Gideon Mosi Primary School in Talio, Voi has been closed indefinitely after parents withdrew their children due to elephant menace.

Parents claim that they withdrew their children to save them from elephants that roam freely in the school compound when pupils are in class.

They say they have been reporting the incidences to Kenya Wildlife Services offices but no action has been taken.

Recently, the residents from Talio village led by their Member of the County Assembly, demonstrated against the elephant menace but say no action has been taken by KWS.

The Ministry of Education, Voi Sub County branch officials lament that Kenya Wild Life Services is forcing schools to shut down due to human-wildlife conflicts.
