Schools in five counties under lock down directed to make travel plans for students

County Commissioners and School Principals will now be required to work together in making transport arrangements for students who will be traveling in and out of the five counties currently under lock down.

In a memo on Friday, the Ministry of Education asked all County Directors of Education to work with County Commissioners and School Principals to ensure that students are facilitated to travel after their examinations.

Under the new directive schools will be required to make sufficient plans with transport companies to have students picked from school.

They have also been directed to ensure that all students who will be traveling are in their full school uniform and bear a letter of introduction from their respective schools.

In new mitigation plans, the government banned movement into and out of Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru Counties following a spike in the number of COVID-19 infections in the five regions.

The cessation of movement into and out of the five counties took effect on Saturday, March 27, 2021 until further notice.

Addressing the Nation on the COVID-19 situation in the country, President Kenyatta said Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu and Nakuru have been declared disease infected areas, noting that they account for 70 percent of the country’s total infections.
