Schools to display audited accounts in graft fight – Kaimenyi

School heads across the country will now be forced to display their annual audited accounts publicly following a directive by Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi in bid to fight embezzlement of funds in schools.

Kaimenyi said the government, through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, sets aside funds to all schools to cater for repair and maintenance of the facilities but this has not been evident since some facilities have been in deteriorating conditions.

Speaking during a prize giving day at Kahuhia Girls School in Muranga County, the Cabinet Secretary condemned the mismanagement of funds dispatched to schools on an annual basis saying the government will do all it can to see that the funds are well utilized.

He urged parents to ask school management boards to account for the expenditures.

He asked school heads to post audited accounts on notice boards.

The Education Cabinet Secretary at the same time reiterated that tuitions during the holidays were prohibited by the government.

Kaimenyi said allowing students to go on holiday gives them the chance to learn other life skills outside school and to refresh.

He also stressed that any school head found retaining students during the holidays will be prosecuted.
