Secondary school students die in grisly morning accident

Three students from Lokichar Girls High School in Turkana County have died and several others severely injured after their school bus lost control and rolled severally at Kaptimbor on Kabarnet–Iten road.

According to Baringo County Police Commandant Peter Ndung’u, the students were heading back to their school after participating in regional games which were held at Kabarnet High School on Thursday June 15th 2017.

Ndung’u said the Friday 7am accident occurred after the bus careened off the road and rolled severally down a stiff hill.

“The bus knocked guard rails at a sharp corner where four GSU officers died last year,” said Ndung’u.

Police are yet to confirm the total number of passengers who were aboard the school bus at the time of the accident.

“Meanwhile, we are in talks with KENHA to erect more road signs and bumps on the road to avert accidents.” added Ndung’u

The bodies were moved to Kabarnet District Hospital mortuary while the injured were admitted in the same hospital for further medical attention.
