Section of Narok-Mai Mahiu road sinks again

Transport is set to be paralysed on the Narok-Mai Mahiu road after a section of the road was cut off at Suswa area for the second time in less than a week.

In a statement to newsrooms, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) said the road had once again dipped in, hence, heavy commercial vehicles could not pass through the Mai Mahiu – Suswa road section.

“The Mai Mahiu – Suswa road section that had on Tuesday been affected by a volcanic fault line has dipped in again, thus cutting off the road for a second time. Heavy commercial vehicles are currently not able to cross the section,” read part of the statement.

KeNHA, however, assured that an immediate emergency exercise had been kicked off to repair the section using rockfill.

The repair exercise, according to KeNHA is expected to take up to four hours.

” Motorists are requested to bear with the situation, which is expected to necessitate traffic interruption which may last up to Four Hours as the Authority undertakes this exercise within the shortest time possible,” said KeNHA.

Last week on Tuesday, a section of the Mai Mahiu – Suswa road dipped in, with theKenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) saying, “the road developed a fault line stretching 200 metres and completely cut the road off.

It was, however, repaired with traffic flow resuming by the end of Wednesday.
