Section of SGR vandalized ahead of Presidential launch

A section of the new Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) has been vandalized at Mariakani in Kilifi County.

However, Kenya Railways Managing Director, Atanas Maina, has termed the damage to the guard rail as a minor destruction.

President Uhuru Kenyatta is scheduled to officially launch the railway on Wednesday, May 31 in Mombasa where he will take a ride to Nairobi.

Meanwhile, the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinnet, says vandalising any part of the SGR infrastructure amounts to economic sabotage and has warned of stiff penalties to offenders.
