Security agencies heighten operations in Mombasa

Security agencies in Mombasa have heightened operations targeting criminal gangs among them Wakili Wao and Wakali Kwanza in northern parts of the Coastal city.

The illegal groups are said to be terrorizing residents robbing them off their valuables and stabbing others.

One person was gunned down and several others arrested after police received a tip-off from the members of the public that criminal gangs armed with machetes and knives were attacking people in areas of Kisauni Sub-County.

According to Kisauni police boss Richard Ngatia, the deceased was killed after his group allegedly attempted to attack police officers who were conducting the operation.

Police are in hot pursuit of several others believed to have escaped with bullets wounds. Parents, religious leaders and the community at large have been urged to work with police to ensure security is restored in the area.

At the same time, police recovered stolen household goods worth over five million shillings after one of the arrested suspects led them to a shop that is used as a warehouse by the same gang.

Detectives investigating the case are looking for the owner of the premises was after he escaped during the raid.
