Security boss orders arrest of Baringo chiefs over banditry

A warrant of arrest has been issued against chiefs amid ongoing banditry attacks in Baringo and Laikipia Counties.

Following constant attacks, Baringo County Commissioner, Peter Okwanyo, ordered immediate arrest of two chiefs from Tiaty Sub County in connection with earlier incidences that left six police officers and four Tugen herders killed during a fierce fire exchange in Mochongoi at the Baringo-Laikipia border on July 12.

The two are Makany Sub Location Assistant Chief, Philip Aremo Sambuli, and his colleague in Amaya Sub Location, Samson Kala.

“I personally contacted the first chief (Aremo) asking him to record a statement at Marigat police station over the killings but he turned me down saying he had no money for transport,” said the Commissioner.

“The second one (Kala) had his phone switched off since the incident occurred, so I am ordering their immediate arrest from wherever they are hiding.”

He said the government has opted to lay full force to arrest the chiefs who fail to produce the armed bandits.

This order comes barely five days after Paka Location Chief Moses Dike was arrested and is currently being held for questioning at undisclosed Police Station.
