Security guard arrested over UoN students murder to know his fate tomorrow

A Nairobi court will on Friday rule on whether a security guard arrested in connection with the murder of a university student will be remanded for 10 days pending investigations.

Spenser Kipkorir Kosgey was arrested on Wednesday evening over his alleged involvement in the murder of University of Nairobi student Elisha Otieno Odeng.

Kosgey was nabbed following witness statements which reportedly mentioned him as having led a group of private security guards attached to the university in restraining and beating the deceased before later dumping his body.

According to court papers seen by Citizen Digital, Kosgey — in the company of the other guards – arrested the student on the night of March 4, 2020 and allegedly beat him up while marching him to Central Police Station.

The court heard that postmortem conducted at Chiromo mortuary indicated the cause of death as multiple injuries due to blunt force trauma as well as neck compression due to ligature strangulation.

The prosecution also told the court that, if released, the suspect might interfere with witnesses, further adding that other suspects are also still at large.

University of Nairobi students on Monday evening took to the streets protesting the killing of the deceased.
