Security guard hacked to death as gangsters attack pub in Homa Bay

A security guard was killed while three people escaped with injuries during a night attack at a local pub in Asumbi trading center, Homa Bay County.

55-year-old Samuel Onyango Oyare died on the spot after he was slashed severally with a panga during the attack by seven gangsters wielding crude weapons.

A waitress at the pub, who has been identified as Mary Atieno, Ochola Oloo, a teacher in a local school, and George Ochele escaped with deep cuts during the Saturday night incident.

Gem Central Location chief Peter Otieno Oula said he was called by one of the residents at around midnight informing him of the attack.

However, the chief said when he arrived with his officers at the scene, the thugs had already fled with Ksh.30, 000 and valuables including mobile phones and a flat screen TV set.

Speaking to Radio Ramogi, Oula said the teacher appeared to have been the primary target of the gangsters as he had reportedly withdrawn Ksh.56, 000 on that fateful night.

The teacher reportedly fled and hid in a ditch near the pub after he was attacked, and it was then that the gangsters extended their terror to the other revelers.

Homa Bay Town OCPD Essau Ochorokodi said they had launched investigations into the incident.

The three victims were admitted to Homa Bay Referral Hospital while the body of the security guard was transferred to the mortuary of the same hospital.
