Security guard killed in a Garissa robbery attack

A security guard identified as Salat Garane was on Friday, October 22 night killed by suspected robbers while two other people were critically injured after they were attacked at a construction site along Kismayu Road in Garissa.

The robbers are said to have accessed the premises by cutting through a barbed and mesh wire fence to access the compound.

They robbers killed the guard by hitting him on the head with a blunt object before stabbing the other two on their heads and later stoning them.

The robbers, whose number is yet to be established, further stole a sum of Ksh 300,000 from the construction workers.

Shaban Ali, the site manager, said that the money arrived on Friday evening and was meant to facilitate operations at the site.

Speaking to the press, Pamela Kanana, who works at the site and was among the first people to arrive, found the security guard lying in a pool of blood and alerted the neighbors who in turn called the police.

According to Garissa Police Boss, Aron Moriasi, preliminary investigations show that the incident was a normal robbery and dismissed reports that it was carried out by Al Shabaab fighters.

Police recovered the safe a few metres from the site and a mobile phone, items that are being analysed for further data that will aid in the investigations.

So far nobody has been arrested in connection with the incident.
