Heavy security has been deployed outside the Kerugoya Law Courts ahead of a ruling to determine whether Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru was validly elected.

The case follows a petition lodged by Waiguru’s political rival and NARC-Kenya party leader Martha Karua.

She is contesting the legitimacy of Waiguru’s election victory.

Lawyers defending Waiguru tried to have the case thrown out.

According to them, failure of Karua’s co-petitioner and running mate Gachoki Gitari to appear in court to testify should have been enough to have the case dismissed.

However, their efforts were thwarted and the case continued.

Justice Lucy Gitari is on Thursday expected to make her determination at the end of the hearing.
