Security officials urged to make use of nyumba kumi initiative

Provincial administrators and security officials in Nandi County have been asked to implement the nyumba kumi initiative in order to boost security across the county.

Government officials serving in various departments were taken through a sensitisation program on effective policing strategies dubbed Usalama wa msingi in a bid to improve service delivery.

The sensitisation program that was conducted by Government Policing Authority officers (GPAs) led by Mr Ibrahim Duale took the officers through different strategies of combating insecurity, legal frameworks, community policing among others.

Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Duale encouraged citizens to be aware of their neighbors in order to help police improve security in the region.

“One may live next to a neighbor for 10 years and he may not even know his name or how many people live in that house, these are some of the things we are trying to correct, we want Kenyans to be alert,” he noted.

The administrators were also urged to be on the lookout for people who intend to radicalize the youth.

Community policing was launched by the government in April 2005 in order to combat insecurity in Kenya.

Over 1000 assistant chiefs, chiefs, assistant county commissioners, deputy county commissioners and police bosses participated on the program.
