Seek legal redress to settle poll row, Uhuru tells Raila
President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta has urged National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition to seek legal redress to settle poll outcome dispute.
Speaking on Monday, August 14, after meeting the Assumption of Office Committee at Harambee House, President Kenyatta urged aggrieved parties to engage in peaceful demonstrations as it is protected by law and not to engage in criminal activities.
“The government will not allow looting and destruction of property and losing of lives. Police should use restraint when dealing with post-election protests,” said President Kenyatta.
Also, the president congratulated Team Kenya which finished second after bagging 11 medals – five gold, two silver and three bronze – in the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London.
“Congratulations to our athletes in London for their good work and efforts. They are good Ambassadors of our country,” added President Kenyatta.
Uhuru was announced the winner by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Friday night after garnering 8,203, 290 votes (54.27pc) against Raila Odinga’s 6,762,224 (44.74pc).
