Selection panel advertises IEBC vacancies

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission selection panel has announced vacancies in the posts of chairperson and members of the commission.

Eligible candidates are required to tender in their applications by the 7th of November, 2016.

Those applying for the position of chairman are required to have at least 15 years experience in the legal field as well as meet the requirements of Chapter 6 of the Kenyan Constitution.

Qualifications for the member of the commission position include sufficient knowledge in governance, electoral matters, finance and law; besides holding a degree from a recognized university.

The chairperson and members of the electoral body will serve for a single term of six years.

This announcement comes shortly after Bernadette Musundi of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops was elected as the chairperson of the IEBC selection panel.

Musundi is deputised by the Chairman of the Supreme Council of Muslims in Kenya, Abdulghafur El-Busaidy.

Together, the two will head the 9-member team mandated with the selection of the next IEBC chair as well as six commissioners.
