Senate: Judiciary Should Keep Off Parliament

Speaking during Citizen TV's Cheche show, Ethuro said the Judiciary should wait until the Senate completes its role of grilling governors and then make its ruling afterwards.

He said the Senate has the mandate of ensuring governors do not misuse public funds.

He spoke just a day after Parliament held an informal joint session to plan on how to trim the powers of the governors.

The lawmakers led by Nandi County Senator Stephen Sang has proposed the formation of County Development Boards that will be chaired by senators with the governors sitting only as secretaries.

The legislators are also seeking to reduce the amount allocated to county governments to 15% down from the current 33% claiming that the governors have refused to be accountable.

The governors have since moved to court to stop summons from the Senate over what they claim to be misapropriation of county funds.
