Senate: Need For Policies On Climatic Change

The Senate standing committee on land and natural resources on Thursday met with the ministry of environment natural resources to deliberate on the draft climate change policy and Bill.

According to the author of the Bill Dr. Wilber Oti-Chillo, the refusal by former President Mwai Kibaki to assent the bill was a blessing in disguise because it has welcomed a wide range of ideas from stakeholders and experts after the formation of a national task team on climatic change.

The Bill, that is in the 3rd reading in the National Assembly, aims to bring an institution and legal frame-work on climate change.

If passed, Kenya will be the first country in the world to put such policies in place.
