Senate shoots down Governor Gachagua ouster bid

Nyeri Governor, Nderitu Gachagua, will now remain in office after the Senate unanimously rejected the bid by Nyeri County MCAs to oust him over what they termed as lack of sufficient evidence.

The spirited fight by the MCAs was shot down as 31 Senators voted against the violation of the Constitution charge facing the Governor.

The second charge of failure to comply with the law did not sail through as 32 Senators voted against it with only one supporting it.

32 Senators voted against the abuse of office charge, leading to the unanimous decision that all allegations against Gachagua were not substantiated.

The MCAs accuse Gachagua of alleged irregular procurement processes, misappropriation of funds and failure to assent to the 6.4 billion shilling budget and failure to appoint enough county executives.
