Senate wants CBK Governor’s appointment revoked

Senate Speaker Ekwe Ethuro has faulted the appointment of the new Central Bank of Kenya (CBK)  Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge Ngugi terming it as illegal since the Senate was not involved in the vetting process.

Ethuro said the appointment was done in total disregard of the constitution and the Central Bank of Kenya Act.

Senators Moses Wetangula and Stewart Madzayo have called for a review of the appointment, insisting that they have nothing against the new CBK Governor as a person since he is qualified for the job.

Dr. Njoroge was an advisor to the deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in Washington DC where he had worked since 1995.

He holds a doctorate degree in economics from Yale University along with bachelors and masters degrees in economics from the University of Nairobi.

Between 1985 and 1994, Dr. Njoroge worked at the Ministry of Planning and the Ministry of Finance as an planning officer and economist.

His nomination to the position of CBK Governor came at a time when the Kenyan shilling was been under heavy pressure from the U.S. dollar.
